Volunteer Project
Native Canoe Construction

This canoe was shaped and delivered by Joe Dunbar, JEA Urban Forester, in 1998.  Today, students visiting the Preserve use it to learn how the Timucua Indians made dugout canoes.  We still have a long way to go before we can go canoeing in it!

These students are using oyster shells and sticks to scrape out the canoe, like the Timucua did!
