Service Projects

 

Boy Scouts

 

Pelotes Island Nature Preserve is a great place to complete projects for Boy Scout Eagle Scout Awards, merit badges or just to volunteer your time!  All participants who complete at least 2 hours of service will receive a Pelotes Island Service Badge. 

 

We can help you design a project that meets your award & badge requirements or you can choose from the following topics:

 

Kids Helping the Environment

  • Trash clean-up at the Preserve (all ages)
  • Building and donating nesting boxes for wood ducks, bats, small birds, etc. (12 years old and up)
  • Weeding, watering, and planting in our wildlife gardens (all ages)

 

Kids Helping the Preserve

  • Touch-up painting and cleaning at our nature centers and on our trails (12 years old and up)
  • Native hut thatching (12 years old and up)

 

Kids Helping Kids

  • Cutting leather strips, raffia, rolling clay, and making dolls for our Native American program (8 years old and up)
  • Cutting paper and materials for our solar and bird programs (8 years old and up)
  • Painting boxes for our solar program (10 years old and up)
  • Collecting acorns for our Native American program (all ages – available only in the Fall)
  • Making plaster tracks for our animal program (12 years old and up)
  • Helping to create archaeology practice dig sites for our Native American program (12 years old and up)
