Fiddler Crab Coloring Project
We made the pictures really big so they
would be easy to color
A real Fiddler Crab is only 2 inches long!
Male (boy) Fiddler Crab

Female (girl )Fiddler Crab Below

Color the fiddler crabs a mixture of light and dark brown. Color the boy's big claw a
blend of red and brown. Fiddlers that live in dark black mud are naturally darker than
fiddlers living in light-colored sand. This helps them blend in and hide from predators.
Also, a fiddler can change color to help him stay warm or cool. On a cold day, he makes
his color darker so he can absorb more sunlight and warm up. On a hot day, he makes his
shell lighter-colored to help him cool off. This is called Thermoregulation. When you
color, first decide: Do they live on light or dark mud? Is is a cold day or a warm day?
